…so WHY Am I Celebrating International Bacon Day TWICE in 2025?
Some calendar apps list International Bacon Day as always occurring on the Saturday before Labor Day — which this year was August 30th — While many sources state the holiday always falls on the first Saturday in September. So because our U.S. Labor Day holiday falls on the first Monday of September — which this year (2025) happens to literally be September FIRST (1st)… those sources declare the day should be celebrated on Saturday September 6th…
Because this — like most (all?) of the food and drink holidays i herald here — this is an unofficial ‘holiday’ anyway, that means there’s no single governing body that establishes any definitive date — and being the maximalist I am, no surprise I’ll seize the opportunity to celebrate BOTH dates — thereby carrying out my own TFG tradition of “more is more” — which is a good thing — but only for the good stuff of course.
Oh AND there’s also a “National Bacon Day” on December 30th… each year! So we’ll have to be sure to celebrate that one too! According to GOOGLE AI: “The Dec 30th holiday was created by Danya Goodman and Meff Leonard in 1997 to honor bacon and encourage people to enjoy it in new and creative ways beyond just breakfast.” ⬅️ I put that piece of trivia here b/c I’m curious to know more and would love to investigate further (e.g. their cultural backgrounds , and primary motives for establishing the holiday — are they modern day bacon makers? did they inherit the know-how of the makings of the culinary masterpiece called bacon from the original creators of this uniquely American amazingness? Questions, questions…which will be further answered in my forthcoming BOOK… so stay tuned!.)
