“Beats, Wines, & Life” Celebrating Black Music Month with Wine, Food & Hip Hop …

As i was saying in my recent Upcoming Events listing , Good Wine is switching it up for this month's (June 2023) wine class called “Beats, Wines, & Life” to celebrate the techniques, creativity and sense of place (aka “terroir” as we say in wine world ;) of winemakers & the wines they make around the world along with hip hop producers and the music they create that profoundly impacts the world. Right on time for Black Music Month!, it’ll be an active tasting of geographically diverse wines with wonderfully soulful foods and an immersive music listening experience.  An immersive, delicious way to try new wines from a fresh perspective — each flight paired with delectable ‘bites’ prepared by Good Wine shop owner & classically trained CHEF, Heather Johnston. This class will be taking place directly across the street from Good Wine (GW) at the The Old Stone House (OSH) of Brooklyn (in the upstairs ‘great room’ for acoustic purposes) and led by assistant wine buyer, music writer and MC, AK Brunson — who happens to be one of my fave wine co-workers ever — and i been working in wine for a while now ya’ll — two decades and counting!…

HERE’S WHERE WE LEFT OFF IN THE EVENT LISTING POST : Black / African-American music has had the most profound impact on music the world over. With that in mind, last June (2022) on my weekly radio/broadcast show, “Savory & Sweet: Food History & Culture” I featured my brilliant wine work colleague/co-worker (and fellow early-July Cancerian Culinarian) AK — aka Mr. Akinsheye Brunson, who shared on the show how Hip Hop helped him to carve out a career path in the wine world, and how music & wine connects us to ourselves — and to each other. In that conversation AK also connected the dots between the “terroir” (a French word and industry term we wine folks say that meanssense of place”… ) of WINE as well as the terroir of MUSIC — a fascinating comparison (…juxtaposition?) that to me was like “now that’s a fab (& fun) wine class concept!”. And here we are one year later, Black Music Month 2023 serving it all up for you fine folks to experience in real life as one of the most innovative ways to learn about wine in a real life kind of way. When you buy a ticket and get yourself to Park Slope Brooklyn on by 7pm on Thursday 6/15/23 that is :)

But not to fret all ya’ll fam, friends and followers elsewhere on the planet ‘cause you know yours truly will hook you up wit highlights and such — especially my Patreon peeps, where I’ll also post the link to the “Savory & Sweet” episode of the original conversation I had with AK ‘way back’ in June of 2022 . I filmed & recorded that convo live onsite at Good Wine - where the wine classes usually take place (with limited seating due to the boutique size of the shop). So the GOOD news (pun intended ;) about this upcoming class is that attendee size will be expanded in the slightly more spacious Stone House location (just a stone’s throw away!) plus the acoustics there are fab, great for music-centered programming. On my Sunday June 18th show (which is also Father’s Day & Juneteenth Eve!) i’ll include a few retro highlights from that convo as well so be sure to tune into the new weekly airings of my “from Savory to Sweet” episodes broadcasted directly from Streamyard to my Facebook Page and YouTube Channel Sundays at 4pm EST. See you there!
