This is a snapshot overview of an event that originally took place:
On Tuesday June 4th 2024 where I was part of a panel taking place at Les Dames d'Escoffier of New York's annual “The Next Big Sip” event .
That year’s ‘BIG Sip’ theme was “Women in Cocktail Culinary Culture: The Past, Present, and Future” and explored how women played essential roles in shaping our most beloved cocktail party traditions and its enduring culture and history.
The Moderator & Panelists:
Topic “Women & the Cocktail: “ Our panel explored the historic connection of women and the cocktail, a retrospective look at the cocktail party – how it got started, why it came in and out of style, and the essential role that women have played”…. It was moderated by Dr. Nicola Nice, author of the "Cocktail Parlor: How Women Brought the Cocktail Home”:
As the ‘uniquely American’ food & drink historian on the panel, my contribution to the conversation centered on “the symbiotic relationship between the cocktail and the oft overlooked culinary genre that is the hors d’oeuvre, appetizer, and cocktail snack”. I also talked at length about 1920s-era Harlem party pairings. Want to hear what i had to say? Well then you can either: Join my PATREON platform at any level; sign up for my occasional TFG Newsletter — and/or you can subscribe to my newly launched Substack and DM me from any of those platforms for an audio link to the REPLAY…
A spirited panel of women leaders from across the food, beverage, and hospitality industries dove into the “passed,” present and future of cocktails and snacks, discussing everything from the sandwich-and-cup spreads of the Gilded Age and 1920s-era Harlem party pairings to martini-and-fries, and adult happy meals of today and beyond.
Featured Panelists :
Dame Kara Newman: Spirits & Cocktail Writer and Author
Meaghan Dorman: Bar Director Raines Law Room & Dear Irving
Jessamine McLellan: Wine & Spirits Educator, Campari Academy Director
